Siberian village

Sergey Gorshkov was born in a faraway Siberian village. “Right now it sounds strange, but when I grew up, we didn’t have a TV in the house and I spent most of my time at one with nature. It was my only entertainment.Many years later when I lived in the North I had some free time, so I tooka Nikon and my life has chanched since then.

Freedom of creativity

I have sold my business and gained the freedom of creativity. Now my life looks like an endless photo safari. I can’t call myself a professional, I still use the trial-and-error method. I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve learned to analyze them and gain knowledge. Now I’m not ashamed of it – this is my history, my way. While making wildlife photos I didn’t get rich, but the opportunity to communicate with wild animals brings me happiness.

Russia’s Wildlife

My personal project is Russia’s Wildlife. It was in Kamchatka where I started to shoot my first project about bears. Bears are still my passion and my trademark. I’m endlessly thankful to Kamchatka for its lessons of professionalism and love of nature. Right now I am thinking about an ambitious project – the “conquest” of
the Russian Arctic.

Ascetic and beautiful

I want to portray this ascetic and beautiful world the whole way – from the East to the West. I was able to work a lot on the Chukchi Peninsula, the Wrangell Island, the Taymyr Peninsula and the Putorana Plateau, and I hope the work was fruitful. My plans are – Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land.”

Biography Sergey Gorshkov: Ascetic and beautiful

Founding member

Sergey Gorshkov is the founding member of the Russian Union of Wildlife photographers. Sergey has received many awards for his works. He is the holder of two “Photographer of the year in Russia” awards, received in 2007 and 2012. In 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2015 he became the awardee of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Sergey won numerous contests in Italy and France. His works are recognized and popular.

Preserving the richness

Gorshkov organizes personal exhibitions and seminars in Russia and Europe. His works are printed in magazines around the world. Right now Sergey is a resident in the National Geographic Russia magazine. Gorshkov is the author of 6 photo-albums – “Bear”, “Kamchatka – the Vanishing world”, “Kamchatka”, “СatWalk”, ‘Wrangel Island’, ‘Plateau Putorana’ . Sergey pays much attention to preserving the richness of nature through photography.
