Biography Floris Smeets
Full time profession
Photography is my full time profession and passion. I use the Norwegian nature for my playground, where I mainly focus on wildlife and landscapes. I have great respect for the nature and think it is of great importance that pictures are taken in natural situations without disturbing the wildlife or altering the scenery. With my pictures I try to capture the natural beauty in a way that it is not just a captured moment, but that it tells a story.
The species of wildlife I focus on, are often not the easiest species to photograph. My knowledge of the nature, my patience and persistence are the key to my success. So far my work has been featured in several magazines and exhibitions. Next to photographing, I run photo workshops and photo courses in nature and wildlife photography.
Additionally to photography, I have a great passion for guiding. I have started my own company (Your Norwegian Nature), with which I offer guided photo tours, workshops and photo hide rental. If you are interested in photographing in Norway, feel free to take a look on the Your Norwegian Nature homepage.
I was born and raised in the Netherlands. Coming from a family consisting of biologists, my passion for nature is embedded in my DNA. While growing up, I spent most of my time outside, looking for all kinds of wildlife. From the age of eleven I started to develop interest in photography. My dad gave me his first mirror reflex camera for my twelfth birthday. With this camera I learned how to photograph and the importance of having a film-role in the camera when photographing…
Your Norwegian Nature
During high school and the start of my study in forestry, I was focused on other things than photography. But when I came to Norway in 2010 for a part of my Bachelor in forest and nature management and afterwards my masters in applied ecology at Hedmark University College, my interest in photography increased a lot. I became more active in wildlife photography, especially grouse and owl species got my attention. I spent a lot of time getting to know the species and got successful in photographing them.
In the summer of 2014 I finished my masters in applied ecology, with my thesis on browsing behavior and browsing patterns of moose. During the last part of my studies I started my own company “Your Norwegian Nature“. Now I share my knowledge and passion with my guests.
